Cost reductions in CNC wood processing thanks to Mink® claw vacuum pumps

Caption: Calculating and comparing the operating costs involved in vacuum generation is easy with www.spare-mit-mink.ch

With the Mink® claw vacuum pump, Busch now offers a technical alternative that drastically reduces the operating costs of vacuum generation for wood processors. Alongside the minimal maintenance and high degree of efficiency, it is primarily the low energy requirement of the Mink® claw vacuum pump that, in the vast majority of cases, makes it the most economical solution when it comes to vacuum generation for clamping. The savings to be made can now be calculated using an operating cost comparator at www.spare-mit-mink.ch.

Vacuum technology always plays a fundamental role in the area surrounding CNC processing machines when clamping is performed using a vacuum. In the past, the running costs involved were questioned less critically. As a result, dry-sealed rotary vane vacuum pumps established themselves on the market over the past years, without their cost-effectiveness ever being called into question. A general rise in costs mean today's operators scrutinise the operating costs and the energy efficiency of their machines more than ever before.

It's now easy for operators of CNC processing machines to convince themselves of the potential savings Mink holds: Busch offers an operating cost comparator at www.sparen-mit-mink.ch , which compares the operating costs of the existing vacuum pump with a Mink® claw vacuum pump. After entering a few parameters such as nominal suction capacity, operating time and the price of electricity, it takes just a matter of seconds to calculate the operating cost saving that could be achieved by using a Mink® claw vacuum pump in place of the current vacuum pump.

Dolphin liquid ring vacuum pumps with high suction capacities

The new Busch Dolphin liquid ring vacuum pump sizes can now reach a suction capacities in excess of 10,000 cubic metres per hour. The extension of the Dolphin LA/LB series means that the available product range comprises of 21 different pump sizes from 50 to 10,900 cubic metres per hour. In order to achieve optimal ultimate pressure adjustment matched to the demands of the process the vacuum pumps are supplied in two designs: Dolphin LA liquid ring vacuum pumps are single-stage and reach ultimate pressures of between 120 and 150 mbar, depending on the pump size. Due to its two-stage design, the Dolphin LB version can reach ultimate pressures of 33 mbar.

Dolphin liquid ring vacuum pumps are used as individual units and in vacuum systems in many industrial sectors. You can basically choose between three different operating modes: with the re-circulation system, the operating fluid is permanently fed and discharged together with the process gas. When the circuit is open, the operating fluid collects in a downstream container, where it is separated from the gas and then fed again to the vacuum pump. At the same time, fresh operating fluid flows into the vacuum pump. When operating with the closed circuit, the operating fluid is also collected in a downstream container and separated from the gas, after which it flows through a cooler before being fed back to the vacuum pump. When the circuit is closed, hardly any operating fluid is lost.

Dolphin liquid ring vacuum pumps are available in a variety of materials. This means that the appropriate materials or material combinations can be used for all process media. Dolphin LA/LB vacuum pumps are also available in an ATEX-certified version for category 1(i)/2(o)G IIB+H2 T4.

The main fields of application for these vacuum pumps are in the oil and gas industry, the chemical and pharmaceutical industry as well as in plastic processing.

Busch vacuum pumps at "World Solar Challenge" in Australia

The "World Solar Challenge" is a 3.000 km race in Australia in which only solar operated vehicles are allowed to participate. One of the 38 participating teams was the Umicore Solar Team from Belgium. The team members are 14 former students of the International University College in Leuven/Belgium.

In order to be able to repair carbon fibre damages during the race, the team took a R 5 rotary vane vacuum pump with them.

With this vacuum pump the team was able to laminate and harden car body panels under vacuum after a crash.

R 5 vacuum pumps are worldwide the standard vacuum pumps in composites material processing.
